Types of Finishes For Stones

Polished finish

floor polishing

Polished floors are the hardest to maintain, but have the most impressive look. Typically Marble and Crem of Marfil are found polished and are probably the best looking polished. Things to consider with polished floors are the amount of natural light that enters your house and the amount of traffic in certain areas. A polished floor will reflect light like a mirror and show wear-and-tear faster then a honed floor.

Honed floors are the most common stone floor finish. It is typically seen on Travertine floors though can be applied to any type of stone fairly easily. As its being not as shiny as a polished floor, it makes it much easier to maintain as it won’t show wear-and-tear as readily, though it will still be there.

A flat finish is mostly found on pool-deck floors. It is a misconception that “shiny” floors are more slippery than flat floors. This is not the case, but a flat floor does make seeing standing water easier, which would make avoiding slippery spots easier. It is also the easiest to maintain, as it won’t show anything but the worst scratches.

Satin Finish

Can't make up your mind? No problem, we also have a Satin finish. Satin is not a high gloss finish or a flat finish but in between, Semi gloss. Here is a video where we do a satin finish on a travertine floor. Not many companies provide this service but then again, we're not any ordinary company. Ask about our Satin Finish!
